In May, David Hohman became Segpay’s newest VP of Finance, and its tallest employee (by a lot). We’re confident David will help take us to new heights in 2018 and beyond, so we wanted to take this opportunity to introduce you to Segpay’s new money man.
Where are you from?
Pittsburgh, PA – home of the three rivers: namely, the Monongahela, Allegheny, which merge to form the Ohio at Point State Park in the heart of the city.
When and why did you come to Florida?
I moved here two months ago to join Segpay! My significant other has been here in South Florida for a while – we were doing a long-distance relationship for two years (I’d been living in the Chicago suburbs) and we finally decided to be together.
I started looking for a position in south Florida with a growing company and was really impressed with Segpay’s story, and the leadership and investors behind the business.
So, how do you like the Sunshine state so far?
Well, let’s see… I have a substantially shorter commute, live a mile from the beach and wear flip flops every day. Sounds terrible, right?. 😉
Where did you work previously?
Most recently, I was a loan officer for a bank in Chicago. Before that, I did management consulting, focusing on acquisition integration and restructuring; and prior to that I served as general manager for a chemical company.
How did you get started in finance?
I majored in Economics as an undergrad, and focused on finance for my MBA.
I’ve always liked doing financial analysis and forecasting, and really enjoy planning for growth and diversification. The opportunity to influence the direction of a company is very important to me.
Where did you go to school?
I did my undergrad at Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass and earned an MBA at the U. of Chicago.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I played college basketball for Holy Cross. I was team captain my senior year and won the Maloney Award for outstanding contributions to the basketball program. I was inducted into my high school’s Hall of Fame, and remain the leading scorer and rebounder in school history. I got to compete against legends such as Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing and Len Bias.
Do you still play?
These days I play golf. However, I still love sports and spent many years following the softball careers of my 3 daughters (2 of whom earned division I college scholarships). I coached softball and basketball, as well.
Who do you admire outside of work, and why?
Warren Buffett and Bill Gates. Not only have they been obscenely successful professionally and financially, they’ve also worked hard philanthropically and have changed the world with their efforts.
Favorite place you’ve ever traveled ?
Maui. It’s a beautiful island with great golf courses, food, snorkeling and booze cruises.
Do you have a bucket list?
A relatively short one:
- visit Australia and New Zealand
- attend a Super Bowl, Rose Bowl (parade and game) and NCAA Final Four
- get a sports car
